Predicts in-hospital mortality in Stevens-Johnson syndrome / toxic epidermal necrolysis from 7 clinical and laboratory criteria, ideally within 24 h of admission.

Formula / logic

One point for each: age ≥40; associated malignancy; heart rate ≥120; initial epidermal detachment >10% BSA; serum urea >10 mmol/L (BUN >28 mg/dL); serum glucose >14 mmol/L (>252 mg/dL); serum bicarbonate <20 mmol/L. Predicted mortality: 0-1 → 3.2%; 2 → 12.1%; 3 → 35.3%; 4 → 58.3%; ≥5 → ≥90%.
